These deviled eggs are almost too cute to eat, but this fun twist on an Easter classic is not only delicious, but fun to make with your kids. Deviled eggs are easy on braces, and this spirited take on a brunch favorite will make the perfect centerpiece for your brunch table.
Ingredients:
- 6 hard boiled eggs
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 2 tsp mustard
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 slice of cheddar or American cheese.
Start by cutting a thin slice off the bottom of the egg to produce a flat surface for the egg to “stand” on. Then cut off the very top of the egg (make sure to save the pieces for use later). Carefully remove the yolks from the bottoms and tops of the eggs and place them in a bowl. Cut up the slice of cheese into tiny triangles to use as the chicks’ beaks. Next, cut 12 small squares out of the pickle (these will be used for the eyes).
Now it’s time to return to the yolks, which are the best part of deviled eggs! Mash up the yolks with a fork and add in the mayonnaise, pickle relish, and mustard, then stir. Add salt and pepper to your own taste. Stir the mixture until it is smooth and creamy.
Transfer the yolk mixture to a gallon size plastic bag and clip off a small section of the corner so you can pipe the mixture into the hollowed out bottom of the egg. Fill each egg bottom so the yolk peaks out over the top of the egg. Now you can place the beaks (cheese triangles) and eyes (pieces of pickle relish) into place. Finally, top each egg with its missing top half to complete the chick. Ta da! We hope you enjoy!
