Invisalign Columbus Ohio
In the ever-evolving fields of dentistry and orthodontics, clear aligners, like Invisalign, have become extremely popular. Effective and discreet, they are a convenient alternative to braces that fix minor to medium orthodontics issues. At Hutta Orthodontic Specialists we are happy to offer a range of clear appliance options to help our patients get the smile of their dreams.
Straighten Teeth & Boost Dental Health with Invisalign
Our Custom-Printed, 3D Trays
In the field of dentistry, Invisalign is a well-recognized name. However, Invisalign is not your only clear aligner option at our practice. As well as being an Ohio Invisalign provider, we offer other clear dental aligners, including 3D, custom-printed ones created by our team in Columbus. By staying up to date on the technological advancements in dentistry and utilizing our years of experience studying dental care, we commit ourselves to design the best treatments for every patient. With this technology, patients get stunning results quickly, comfortably, and affordably. Plus, unlike with Invisalign, if patients misplace trays or need an adjustment to their plan, we can efficiently print new trays in our office. In comparison, each lost tray or adjustment may extend your treatment as you wait for Invisalign to create new trays off-site.
How Aligner Treatment Works
When a patient first comes into our Columbus office, our orthodontists will first examine their teeth, gums, bones, anatomy, and dentistry records.
Together, we will discuss any cosmetic and functional goals, explain our services, determine treatment options, and share more about the Invisalign or clear aligner process. If a patient is a good candidate, we will then scan the teeth and develop a custom aligner plan using the best technology in dentistry imaging and scanning.
While Invisalign trays are created off-site, our custom trays are 3D printed in-house for ultimate convenience. Once the trays are ready, the patient will come in for the first fitting. Our experts will check that the Invisalign or in-house trays fit the teeth correctly and provide the next few sets. We may also place small, tooth-colored attachments on certain teeth. These are made from dental composite, the same material that cosmetic dentists use for filling cavities. Attachments help each tray most effectively grip teeth and transform smiles.
While individual plans vary, most patients will wear a set of trays for one to two weeks at a time. For treatment to be effective, patient compliance is key. It is important to wear trays for at least 22 hours a day. With aligners, patients have the flexibility to continue eating a normal diet (unlike with braces). However, they must take out trays before eating and brush their teeth before putting them back in. Keeping up with dentistry is also important during treatment. We recommend maintaining biannual dental cleanings and exams.
Because we provide several sets of trays at a time, visits are less frequent than with traditional braces. At checkups, our team will assess treatment progress and ensure teeth are on track. Then, they will provide more trays or adjust the plan as needed.
At the end of treatment, the teeth, bite, and jaw will be healthily aligned. Our team will then develop a retention plan to ensure a healthy, happy smile for life.
What Will You Feel During Treatment?
You may assume that all things dentistry hurt. Fortunately, this is not the case with aligners. When you first put in a new set of Invisalign or our custom-printed trays, you may feel some slight pressure on your teeth. This pressure is important, as it is what helps guide and direct your teeth to move into their new positions. Despite the pressure, this process is not painful.
Once you have worn each aligner for some time, you may notice it starts to feel looser. Don’t skip ahead—stay on track with all of our orthodontists’ instructions. If a patient changes trays too early, it may damage the bones, teeth, gums, or other dentistry work.
For mild soreness after switching to a new tray, only sink your teeth into soft foods. Avoid hard, crunchy, or chewy foods for your comfort. You can place an ice pack along the sides of your jaw and teeth or use dental wax on aligner edges. Additionally, you can take some types of over-the-counter medications to help alleviate the minor feelings of pressure on your teeth. Consult with us before you take any medicines, as some may impact your treatment.
Braces vs Invisalign
For every patient, there is a perfect treatment plan.
To find the ideal treatment for your cosmetic and functional dentistry goals, you need to weigh cost, functionality, and aesthetics. Two of the most popular options among patients are braces and clear aligners, including our 3D, custom-printed option and Invisalign.
Compared to traditional braces, clear aligners offer:
Cosmetic Appliances
Clear plastic makes your dental treatment discreet. Unlike tell-tale metal brackets and wires along your teeth, your journey is entirely private.
No Food Restrictions
While braces forbid you from indulging in hard, sticky candies, gum, or popcorn, with trays, eating is simple. You can eat whatever you want. Just be sure to stay on top of your dental hygiene and keep your teeth clean.
Easier Care
Since aligners have fewer parts than braces and are removable, cleaning your teeth is less time-consuming. This not only protects the health of your teeth but can defend your pearly whites from staining and assist treatment.
